Understanding MSME

An enterprise shall be classified as a micro, small or medium enterprise on the basis of the following criteria, namely: —

  • (i) a micro enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed one crore rupees and turnover does not exceed five crore rupees;
  • (ii) a small enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed ten crore rupees and turnover does not exceed fifty crore rupees; and
  • (iii) a medium enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed fifty crore rupees and turnover does not exceed two hundred and fifty crore rupees.

Also, note that there are no government fee for registering MSME for Udyam.

Who Needs to Register under Udyam?

Any business entity operating as a proprietorship, partnership, Hindu Undivided Family (HUF), company, or cooperative society engaged in manufacturing or providing services, if it meets the MSME classification criteria, needs to register under Udyam.

Is There a Fee for Udyam Registration?

No, Udyam registration is completely free of government fee..

Do I Need to Update My Udyam Registration?

There's no need to renew your Udyam registration. However, it's advisable to update your business details (address, contact information, etc.) if they change.

Can I Have Multiple Udyam Registrations?

No, a single Udyam registration is sufficient for your business, even if you have multiple activities or locations.

What if I Already Have an EM-I or EM-II Registration?

Existing EM-I or EM-II registrations are automatically migrated to the Udyam portal. However, it's recommended to verify and update your details on the Udyam portal for better accessibility.
